February Meeting

Linn Health

FROM THE PRESIDENT: Laura O’Leary

Have you ever received a scary phone call or letter from the Linn County Health Department regarding your rental unit, house or building?  Ruby Perin, Supervisor of the Healthy Homes Branch of the Linn County Health Department, will be our speaker next week, updating landlords on the timely issues of mold, radon, lead and smoke. Interestingly, Ruby has noted the two biggest complaints reported by tenants to the Health Department are second-hand smoke from neighbors, and perceived mold problems. It is so important that landlords are aware and understand these environmental issues before they become real problems. Ruby will also have information regarding grant money available for lead abatement, and an overview of radon issues.

Our February meeting will be Thursday evening, February 11th, at the Clarion Hotel.  Social hour will begin at 6:00 PM, with the dinner buffet open at 6:45. Our program will begin at 7:00.

PLEASE NOTE: This may be our last program held at the Clarion, as they are now unable to accommodate our meetings after recent staff and management changes there.  So, please read carefully, and watch for changes in the location for our March meeting. This month, those attending must respond by the morning of Monday, February 8th. We are now unable to call in any meals or seating after Monday, so be sure to email us at [email protected] by that date if you plan to attend. We also must pay for the count we give them, so we must hold our members responsible for all meals reserved.  After Monday, our members will not be able to purchase the meal.  Also, payment will only be received by cash or check, NO debit or credit cards.

Watch for information regarding our change of location for March and future meetings.

The 2016 Executive Officers were elected by the Board of Directors on January 21st:  Treasurer, Dick Rehman;  Secretary, Kim Frederickson;  Vice President, Michele Formanek;  President, Laura O’Leary.  The rest of our Board of Directors, Therie Cutchlow, Ed Faber, Garry Grimm, Marilyn Heaverlo, Barb Kintzle, Linda Miller, Bob Mitchell, and Joyce Steffen all work very hard on our various committees.  Our Board and Officers are all volunteers, with our goal to keep our membership educated on all Landlord-Tenant and Fair Housing issues at a local, state and federal level. We now have 213 members, (our most ever!) comprised of vendors, affiliates, property owners and managers of over 13,000 rental units.
