FROM THE PRESIDENT:  Laura O’Leary

Are you taking advantage of resources at your fingertips, using technology to become better landlords and property managers?  We all know there are vast amounts of data, applications and websites we can access, and often this can be overwhelming.  Our August speaker will offer a few easy ideas that we can use.

Jeroen Corver, Director of Digital Solutions at Townsquare Media, is considered to be an expert on digital marketing. He will cover online marketing, geared towards the beginner/intermediate user, such as:

  1. Using social media to boost your Craigslist posts
  2. Why online reviews matter and how to manage them
  3. Using digital marketing to attract the right renters
  4. Tenant screening with Facebook
  5. Other resources, such as Iowa Courts Online, Assessors sites and information available on our City’s website

Join us Thursday evening, August 11th at the Longbranch.  Social will begin at 6:00, with the dinner served around 6:30. Our program will begin at 7:00.  It is imperative to let us know you are coming, as we need to give The Longbranch a count for both seating and meals by Monday.  Follow this link to reply by Aug 8: http://landlordsoflinncounty.com/event/august-meeting-2/                              (You do not have to let us know if you’re NOT coming.)

It is important as landlords to give back to our community in a variety of ways whenever we can.  Over the past 18 months Landlords of Linn County has donated to several local housing organizations.  At our July meeting, we presented a $500 donation to Mission of Hope, and heard from their representative about their mission.  On Wednesday, September 7, we will have the opportunity for some hands-on work with Habitat for Humanity.  Join us that day as Landlords of Linn County members donate some time and elbow grease.  Watch for more information to arrive in your inbox, also at our meeting Thursday.

The Cedar Rapids Civil Rights Commission will hold FREE training at the Cedar Rapids Public Library, Monday, August 29, 10:00 – noon.  This will cover the rights and responsibilities of the business owner.  Learn the differences between service animals and companion (emotional support, comfort, therapy) animals.  Understand questions that can and cannot be asked regarding such animals, and the requirements for their control.  You can register for this event at www.Eventbrite.com.  We will have more information at our meeting, and on our website.

See you all Thursday!!
