SF 2310 – Underage drinking

The Iowa Senate today accepted the House amendment and passed SF 2310, the youth underage drinking bill.

SF 2310 now goes to Governor Branstad.

SF 2310 would impose a simple misdemeanor charge and a fine of $200, for first offense, on property owners who knowingly allow underage drinking on their properties.  Underage drinking will be defined as 17 years old and younger.  For subsequent offenses, property owners could face a $500 fine.

SF 2310 fully exempts landlords and managers of residential rental properties from this new law.

SF 2310 also does not apply to those 22 counties and 26 cities that have their own ordinances on this issue.  Local governments can have stronger measures than the state on this issue.
