FROM THE PRESIDENT: Laura O’Leary

 

Have you ever wondered how to dispose of all the “stuff” some renters leave for you on their way out?  Our January meeting will be this coming Thursday, January 9th,  NOON at the Clarion Hotel.  Megan Murphy, Utlilities Communications Coordinator for the City Cedar Rapids will discuss different options for disposal that we as property owners have.
Buffet lunch will be served at 11:45. Reservations are imperative, please email us no later than Tuesday, January 7 if you will be attending. The Clarion needs an exact count not only for food prep but also for how many to set up the room. email us at [email protected] 

Our Board of Directors meets monthly to plan our programs, manage our treasury, maintain our website, develop our membership, watch and participate in local, state and national legislative issues, and in general provide support to our members in a variety of ways.  We have a balance of private owners and property managers on our Board. Congratulations to the following who were elected at our December meeting to serve on our 2014 Board of Directors:

Therie Cutchlow: Therie’s occupation is Income Tax Preparation, as well as being a landlord with two rental houses that she owns and manages. She became an active landlord six years ago, and has been a Landlords of Linn County member since around 2007. She is a native of Cedar Rapids, and an avid supporter of realistic change and measurable progress for our city.

Michele Formanek: Property Manager for Granite Valley Apartments, 166 units. Michele has managed rental property for thirteen years. She has been a member of LLC since 1998, and on our Board for over ten years. Michele is currently our Membership Chair, coordinating our meeting locations. When not “at work”, she is at home with her husband and two sons. Michele is also a Color Guard instructor for the Prairie High School Marching Band, and secretary for her sons’ daycare parent advisory committee.

Kim Frederickson: Community Manager, Gateway Gardens Apartments, 328 units. Kim has been managing rental property since 1991, and a member of LLC since 1991. She has been on our Board since 2006 and has also served on the Landlords of Iowa Board of Directors since 2007. She is Board Secretary for both LLC and LLIA. When not working Kim enjoys going to the movies and traveling.

Kim Gordon: Property Manager for Affordable Housing Network, Inc., 785 units. Kim has been active in the housing industry for the past 22 years, 13 as a landlord. She has been a member of LLC on and off over the past 17 years, and has served on our Board for a total of about seven years. Kim enjoys reading, running, and spending time with family and friends.

Garry Grimm: Garry has been a landlord since 1979, and currently rents out 22 single family homes, having lost 5 in the flood of 2008. He has been a member of LLC since 1995, and on our Board since 2001. Garry is currently serving as our Vice President, and is also our Program Chair. He also serves on the C.R. Housing Appeals Board, and is a long term member of the Wellington Heights and Mound View neighborhood associations.

Marilyn Heaverlo: Marilyn has been in Property Management for over 25 years, managing various properties, including conventional, low income tax credit, HUD, and non-profit apartments. She is a past LLC Board Member serving as the treasurer, and Vice President, and has served on multiple resident councils. She has resided in Cedar Rapids all her life, is married with two grown children

Barb Kintzle: Barb is currently the Property Manager at Continental Terrace Apartments, 144 units. She has been managing rental property for eight years, and a member of Landlords of Linn County for six years. Barb has been on our Board for the past three years, has served the past year as our Treasurer, and is currently Vendor Chair. Barb is also President of Treeline Homeowners Association.

Linda Miller: Linda is retired from Rockwell Collins and owns two 4-plexes in Marion. She has been a landlord since 2006, and has been a member of Landlords of Linn County since 2008. Linda was previously on the GLBT Board at Rockwell and currently volunteers as a table judge for FLL Lego League Robotics.

Bob Mitchell: After 42 years in the computer industry, Bob is now a full time landlord, with six rental units. He has been a landlord since 1999 and a member of LLC since 2004. Bob is our Legislative Chair, 2011 Landlords of Iowa Convention Chair, and also serves on the Landlords of Iowa Board of Directors.

Laura O’Leary: Manager, Pheasant Run Apartments, 231 units, plus owns three rental condos. Laura has been managing rental property for about 27 years and a member of LLC since 1988. She has served on the Landlords of Iowa Board of Directors, and current president of LLC. Previously served on the Cedar Rapids Housing Board of Appeals and is currently on the Cedar Rapids Civil Rights Commission.

Bob Randklev: Realtor, Web Developer, Fun Haver. Bob has been a landlord since 2003, currently with 3 units. He has been a member of LLC since 2004 and on our Board since 2006. Bob developed and maintains our website and is our Technology Committee Chair. His other interests include SCORE counselor, Isle of Iowa Parrot Head Club, and Hodomaniacs Travel Club.

Dick Rehman: Retired real estate investor. Dick currently has 46 units, and was a charter member of Landlords of Linn County when it first formed as Metropolitan Housing Association in 1978. Dick is currently our Treasurer and on our Technology Committee. He is a past president of Landlords of Linn County, and Landlords of Iowa. He has served on the Cedar Rapids Affordable Housing Commission and the Continuum of Care Council. His other great interest is traveling.
